Restructure Curricular To Churn Out Labour-Ready Students - Lawyer Kodua Tells Academic Institutions, As He Announces The Upcoming Yea Job Fair.

9The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong has called on all Academic Institutions and stakeholders in the Education Sector to restructure their existing curricular to suit the labour demands of the corporate industry.

He made this call when he announced the upcoming YEA's Jobcentre 'Job Fair' slated for the 9th and 10th of September.

Speaking at a National Forum on Employment and Employability on Wednesday in the Ashanti Region, Lawyer Justin Koduah Frimpong explained the myriad of challenges institutions like the YEA are faced with in providing jobs for the the youth. Some of the challenges he highlighted included limited finance, sustainability of programs, high labour market. Pivot among these challenges according to the CEO is the gap between academia and Industry; the provision of labour-ready students to meet the demands of the job market. He explained that this is part of the reasons why the YEA has decided to set up the Jobcentre project to identify job opportunities for jobseekers and also seek to prepare jobseekers for the job market.

He disclosed that the upcoming YEA JOB FAIR will involve live interviews and recruitment, registration of participants to be trained on CV preparation, job search skills among others. It will link employers to all kinds of job seekers both in the formal and informal sector.

After the maiden event in Accra on the 9th and 10th of September, it will be replicated accross the country. Prospective participants can pre register at www.yeajobcentre.gov.gh

Lawyer Kodua called on all stakeholders to help bridge the gap between academia and industry and further urged the education faculty to practicalise their teaching methods and also involve the corporate industry in their extra-curricalar activities. He said the YEA will continue to support programmes like industrial attachments and many others that would be beneficial for students.

The program saw the launch of a research on Employment and Employability in Ghana in 2019 by Dr Smart Sarpong a researcher and senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University.

YEA is a Government Agency setup by law to provide jobs and create employment opportunities for the youth of Ghana
