15 October,2025

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA), in collaboration with the Ghana Prisons Service, has successfully held the Passing-Out Ceremony for the second cohort of Prison Service Assistants under the Agency’s Prison Assistants Module. The ceremony took place at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of YEA, *Abubakari Saana Abdul-Kudus, representing CEO *Malik Basintale, led the event alongside senior officials of the Ghana Prisons Service. The newly trained assistants form part of a nationwide effort to equip young Ghanaians with employable skills while boosting manpower within the country’s correctional institutions.

The Prison Assistants Module, one of YEA’s flagship security-related initiatives, aims to recruit, train, and deploy 5,000 young people across various prisons in Ghana. The training focuses on discipline, safety procedures, inmate management, and operational support, ultimately enhancing the capacity of the Ghana Prisons Service.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy CEO Abdul-Kudus commended the recruits for their commitment and discipline throughout the training period. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with YEA’s core mandate of creating decent, sustainable employment opportunities for Ghana’s youth.

He noted that the partnership with the Prisons Service not only provides jobs but also strengthens Ghana’s internal security framework, ensuring that correctional facilities are adequately staffed to maintain safety and order.

Officials of the Ghana Prisons Service also praised the ongoing collaboration, highlighting the positive impact the recruits have already begun to make in easing operational pressures within various prison facilities.

The Passing-Out Ceremony signifies another milestone in YEA’s broader agenda to empower young people, promote national service, and contribute to socio-economic development.
