The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Malik Basintale, has officially launched the training of the first batch of 5,000 youth under the Agency’s Fire Assistants Module. The opening ceremony, held at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Training School in JamesTown, marks the beginning of a major national initiative aimed at strengthening Ghana’s emergency response capacity while creating meaningful employment for young people.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Chief Fire Officer, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, who praised the programme as both timely and transformative. She emphasized that the initiative will play a crucial role in equipping Ghanaian youth with essential emergency response and fire safety skills, an effort that will ultimately enhance public safety and support national disaster preparedness.

In his address, CEO Malik Basintale highlighted the dual purpose of the partnership with GNFS. Beyond providing jobs, he noted that the programme seeks to cultivate a disciplined, service-oriented, and highly capable cohort of young Ghanaians who are ready to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies. He stressed that the newly enrolled trainees symbolize the nation’s renewed commitment to building a resilient safety infrastructure and empowering the youth with practical, life-saving competencies.

The launch of the Fire Assistants Module adds to the expanding list of impactful initiatives under YEA’s renewed agenda to create sustainable employment through strategic collaborations with key public-sector institutions. As training begins, thousands of young people are being offered the opportunity to develop valuable skills, build meaningful careers, and contribute significantly to safeguarding their communities.

Through this initiative, the Youth Employment Agency continues to demonstrate its dedication to developing a skilled, empowered, and nationally engaged youth workforce, one that strengthens Ghana’s emergency response systems and supports long-term national development.
