YEA Signs Landmark MoU with Zacoal Company to Train 2,000 Youth in Sustainable Charcoal Production.
Accra, Ghana — 30th September , 2025.
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has taken a major step toward advancing green jobs and sustainable economic development with the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zacoal Company Limited under the transformative Waste to Wealth Project. The agreement, led by YEA CEO Malik Basintale, marks a significant commitment to job creation, environmental protection, and innovation in waste management.
Under the partnership, an initial *2,000 young people across the country will be trained in sustainable charcoal production, equipping them with skills to convert agricultural waste—such as coconut husks, corn cobs, and rice husks—into *biochar, a cleaner and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional charcoal.
The initiative aims to revolutionize how agricultural residue is utilized by transforming waste into profitable, eco-conscious products. By promoting pollution-free charcoal production, the project aligns with global climate sustainability goals while contributing to Ghana’s circular economy.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, CEO Malik Basintale emphasized that the Waste to Wealth Project represents more than employment creation. “This partnership is about practical empowerment. We are providing young people with sustainable livelihoods while promoting green innovation that protects our environment and fuels economic growth,” he noted.
The collaboration with Zacoal Company Limited is expected to create a ripple effect of long-term benefits—reducing waste pollution, promoting renewable energy solutions, and building an environmentally aware workforce equipped for emerging green industries.
The YEA Waste to Wealth Project continues to demonstrate the Agency’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and preparing Ghana’s youth for the evolving demands of a sustainable future. With this bold move, YEA reinforces its role as a catalyst for innovation, job creation, and environmental stewardship.
