The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has continued its regional engagements with a staff durbar in the Oti Region, bringing together management and staff to review the Agency’s progress, discuss ongoing and upcoming initiatives, and reaffirm their collective responsibility towards advancing the Agency’s mandate of creating meaningful employment opportunities for the youth of Ghana.
The engagement formed part of the Agency’s ongoing regional tour, which seeks to strengthen communication between management and staff, foster greater collaboration across the Agency’s structures, and provide management with an opportunity to engage directly with personnel at the regional and district levels. It also served as a platform for staff to receive updates on the Agency’s programmes, share their experiences, and gain a clearer understanding of the direction and priorities of management.
Present at the engagement were the Chief Executive Officer, Malik Basintale, Deputy CEO (Operations), Abubakari Saana Abdul-Kudus, and members of management.
Addressing staff, Deputy CEO (Operations), Abubakari Saana Abdul-Kudus, emphasised the importance of unity, discipline, teamwork, and professionalism in ensuring the effective delivery of the Agency’s mandate. He reminded staff that the Youth Employment Agency is one family and encouraged employees to see one another as partners working towards a common objective.
He stressed that collaboration and mutual respect among staff are essential to building a strong institution capable of responding effectively to the employment needs of young people across the country. He therefore encouraged staff to uphold professionalism in their dealings with colleagues, beneficiaries, stakeholders, and members of the public, while respecting the established hierarchy and institutional structures of the Agency.
The Deputy CEO also urged staff to remain time-conscious and committed to their responsibilities, noting that discipline and consistency in the workplace are critical to improving productivity and ensuring that the Agency’s programmes are implemented effectively at the local level.
In his address, Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale commended staff for their dedication, resilience, and hard work in supporting the Agency’s growing programmes and interventions. He acknowledged the contribution of staff across the various regions and districts, noting that the Agency’s achievements would not have been possible without their collective efforts.
The CEO highlighted the recruitment of more than 86,000 young people as one of the Agency’s significant achievements, noting that the milestone reflects the scale of work being undertaken by YEA to address unemployment and expand opportunities for young Ghanaians.
He also highlighted a number of key interventions introduced or being implemented by the Agency, including the Community Medical First Response (CMFR) module, which seeks to equip young people with relevant skills to provide first-response support within their communities.
The CEO further spoke about the recruitment of 6,000 Arabic instructors and the Agency’s ongoing skills training programmes, which are designed to equip beneficiaries with practical skills that can improve their employability and provide pathways towards sustainable livelihoods.
Another key area highlighted during the engagement was the expansion of the Labour Exchange Programme. The initiative seeks to provide Ghanaian youth with international work experience and employment opportunities, while exposing beneficiaries to new professional environments, skills, and standards that can contribute to their long-term career development.
The CEO announced that beneficiaries under the skills training and Community Medical First Response modules will soon receive toolkits to support them in applying the skills acquired through their respective programmes. The provision of these tools is expected to strengthen the capacity of beneficiaries to put their training into practical use and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
He also touched on plans to distribute 2,000 electric bikes to support young people engaged in delivery services. The initiative forms part of the Agency’s efforts to explore practical employment opportunities and provide beneficiaries with the resources needed to participate effectively in emerging areas of the labour market.
In addition to programme expansion, the CEO highlighted planned institutional reforms aimed at improving the efficiency and responsiveness of the Agency’s operations. These include the decentralisation of Monitoring and Evaluation and validation exercises to the district level.
The decentralisation is expected to improve operational efficiency by bringing key monitoring and validation processes closer to beneficiaries and programme implementation points. It will also strengthen oversight and enable the Agency to respond more effectively to operational challenges across the various districts.
The CEO further reaffirmed management’s commitment to improving staff welfare and creating a working environment in which employees are supported to perform their duties effectively. He stressed the importance of having a motivated workforce capable of translating the Agency’s policies and programmes into tangible outcomes for young people.
The staff durbar therefore served not only as an opportunity to communicate the Agency’s achievements and plans, but also as an important platform for strengthening the relationship between management and staff. Through direct engagement, management was able to reinforce key expectations while encouraging staff to remain committed to the shared vision of the Agency.
The engagement in the Oti Region forms part of YEA’s broader regional outreach and staff engagement programme, reflecting management’s commitment to ensuring that the Agency’s strategic priorities are understood and embraced across all levels of its operations.
As the Agency continues to expand its programmes and reach more young people, the commitment and professionalism of its workforce will remain central to achieving sustainable results. The Oti Region engagement reinforced the need for unity, discipline, teamwork, and accountability as YEA continues its efforts to create opportunities, develop skills, and empower young people across Ghana.
The durbar ultimately reaffirmed the Agency’s resolve to strengthen its institutional capacity, improve staff welfare, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver sustainable employment opportunities that contribute to the socio-economic development of Ghana’s youth.
