The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has strengthened its partnership with the National Ambulance Service Ghana following a working visit by officials of the Service to the Agency’s headquarters to present progress updates on the implementation of the Community Medical First Responders (CMFR) Programme.

The programme, which was launched last year as part of YEA’s broader commitment to skills development and job creation, was designed to provide young Ghanaians with practical first aid and emergency response training while creating meaningful employment opportunities that directly impact communities across the country.

The visit served as an opportunity for both institutions to review the successes, challenges, and growing impact of the initiative since its inception. Discussions focused on the effectiveness of the training programme, the contributions of beneficiaries within their communities, and strategies to further improve emergency response support nationwide.

Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Malik Basintale, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to implementing innovative programmes that not only address unemployment but also contribute significantly to national development and public safety.

According to the CEO, the Community Medical First Responders Programme represents one of the Agency’s most impactful interventions because it combines employment with social responsibility, empowering young people to become active contributors to healthcare delivery and emergency support systems in Ghana.

Mr. Basintale noted that beyond providing jobs, the programme equips beneficiaries with valuable and practical skills that position them to respond effectively during emergencies, accidents, and critical health situations within their local communities.

“This initiative demonstrates that youth employment can go beyond economic empowerment to become a tool for community transformation and lifesaving service. These young responders are not only employed but are also making meaningful contributions to society by supporting emergency healthcare delivery,” he stated.

The CMFR Programme was developed to bridge the gap between communities and emergency healthcare services by training young people in basic first aid, emergency response techniques, patient stabilization, and community support practices. Beneficiaries undergo structured training facilitated by professionals from the National Ambulance Service to ensure they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond during emergencies before professional medical teams arrive.

Since the rollout of the programme, approximately 6,000 young people have been engaged and empowered nationwide. These beneficiaries are currently serving in various communities across the country, supporting emergency response efforts and helping to improve awareness and preparedness in times of medical emergencies.

Officials from the National Ambulance Service commended the Youth Employment Agency for its continued collaboration and support towards the successful implementation of the programme. They highlighted the positive contributions being made by beneficiaries and emphasized the importance of sustaining the initiative to further strengthen community-based emergency response systems in Ghana.

The delegation also shared updates on the progress made so far, including the increasing involvement of trained responders in community emergency interventions and public health support activities. They noted that the programme has contributed significantly to extending basic emergency assistance to underserved areas where access to immediate medical care may sometimes be limited.

As part of plans to improve operational efficiency and preparedness among beneficiaries, Mr. Basintale announced that all Community Medical First Responders under the programme would soon receive emergency response tool kits. The kits are expected to contain essential materials and equipment that will support beneficiaries in carrying out their responsibilities more effectively and professionally.

He explained that the distribution of the tool kits forms part of YEA’s broader objective of ensuring that beneficiaries are not only trained but are also adequately resourced to perform their duties confidently and efficiently.

The CEO further reiterated the Agency’s commitment to expanding opportunities for Ghanaian youth through strategic partnerships that promote skills development, national service, and community impact. He encouraged beneficiaries of the programme to remain disciplined, committed, and dedicated to serving their communities with professionalism and compassion.

The partnership between the Youth Employment Agency and the National Ambulance Service continues to stand as a strong example of how collaborative interventions can simultaneously address youth unemployment, promote skills acquisition, and strengthen essential social services for national development.

Through initiatives such as the Community Medical First Responders Programme, YEA continues to demonstrate its dedication to empowering young people while contributing meaningfully to the health, safety, and wellbeing of communities across Ghana.
